Imagine standing on your porch some morning in the near future, in your new neighborhood, sipping on your favorite morning coffee and taking in the crisp mountain air. You look up, towards the south-west, to Pikes Peak, moving your gaze slowly to the right, following the mountain ridges to the north to Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. The entirety of the Front Range glows purple in the early morning light. There is nothing more beautiful than the view from your new Parker CO home.
That’s the feel of the Town of Parker. It’s that quaint little suburban town at the base of the Rocky Mountains, just the right size, with a historic and walkable downtown, local shops and restaurants, so close to the beating heart of Denver yet able to hold on to that quiet, small-town family feel. You can imagine you are miles from everything, but close to what you want and need. It’s an everyday retreat. Convenient seclusion. You’re home.
There are lots of reasons why the Town of Parker is regularly picked as one of the best places to live in America. Isn’t it time for you to find out why? Once you do, you’ll want to start researching all the Parker CO homes for sale.
Over the years, the Town of Parker has been consistently rated one of the best places to live by the likes of Money Magazine, Forbes, CNN, Business Insider and more organizations that get paid to do that type of thing. More importantly to you, though, is that Parker continues to rate highly in their independent citizen surveys – by the very people that live here – consistently ranking near the top for having a sense of community and as a beautiful and safe place to live and raise children.
And what about the kids? The Colorado Department of Education gives the Town of Parker and the rest of Douglas County Colorado Schools the highest accreditation rating. With a healthy mix of public, private and charter schools, Douglas County’s school board has been among the most creative in the country at putting the kids and their education first. As a result, test scores and graduation rates of students from Douglas County Schools regularly outpace those from the rest of Colorado while also saving money.
The citizens and government of Parker take pride in their town. Over the past 15 years, Parker has almost doubled in population to nearly 50,000 residents. Although still not huge, this migration brings a melding of ideas, cultures and opportunities. The Town of Parker is a bit of a throwback, to the time when community seemed a bit more important. Sure, there are large national companies that call Parker home and plenty of economic opportunity, and with an educated workforce and proximity to the Denver Tech Center, Parker is an attractive home for a variety of businesses. Mayor Mike Waid and the town government, though, are committed to historic preservation, local business opportunity and steering economic activity toward smart business growth and civic involvement. Parker wants to grow, but not at the expense of the community feel and local entrepreneurial opportunity. Business is important, but neighborhoods matter, too.
In order to guide and control the downtown growth, while maintaining standards, The Town of Parker CO has put together an outline of Guidelines to adhere to.
Overview
In order to encourage intensity, activity and identify of downtown, the entire geographic region of Parker’s commercial core was rezoned to a single zoning district entitled Greater Downtown. The primary reason for this Town-initiated rezoning was to ensure a cohesive image while encouraging long-term sustainability and vitality in a manner that would preserve the character of the community. It’s refreshing to live in a place that takes the idea of community seriously. Being designated an Emerging Creative District, the Town of Parker is showing people that community and culture are still important to the people that call Parker home. That means more than booking a few concerts around town. This designation helps with planning and funding to attract creative entrepreneurs and artists to Parker, bringing new local creative energy and innovation, enhancing the beauty of the area and well as creating fresh local venues, art galleries, festivals, events and economic activity to draw visitors. And when visitors get here, Parker welcomes them to an easily accessible Old-Town downtown with unique local restaurants, independent coffee shops, boutiques and wine bars. It’s not the suburban same-ol’ same-ol’.
But it’s the natural beauty that still draws you to the mountains, isn’t it? It’s the outdoors. It’s being able to get out and do what you do. Be healthy. Parker takes recreation seriously and has an amazing network of trails as well as world class recreation centers and numerous parks and open spaces. Get outside. Hike, bike, skate, camp, paddle and ride horses. With the Cherry Creek trail dissecting Parker’s heart, you can hop on a bike and ride on part of the largest bike trail system, per capita, in the US. Ride north to the Cherry Creek Reservoir or on to downtown Denver and Confluence Park. Or, head south to Castlewood Canyon State Park for some trekking and climbing. Everything is possible and pretty much right outside your door, ready for you and your family.
