“Hey, we have a hospital now.” Seems weird to hear people say that with such pride in a growing suburban city just south of Denver in 2015, but that kind of describes Castle Rock. Even though it’s the largest city in Douglas County – about 56,000 people – it’s always been a little out on it’s own, more small-town than suburb. And that’s just the way we like it, equal parts mountain-town and metro-chic. Only thirty miles from the heart of Denver, 20 minutes straight down I-25 from the Denver Tech Center, and 6200 feet above sea level, Castle Rock CO is one of the most picturesque and livable towns on the Front Range.
Here, in the shadow of the castle-like rock formation that looms above the center of town, you can experience everything from designer boutiques and one-of-a-kind restaurants in the charming and historic downtown to the shopping Mecca that is the Outlets at Castle Rock, a destination outlet mall with over 100+ shops and restaurants. If you’re looking to get away from things and be able to gaze on and play on the majesty of the Rocky Mountains, while still being just close enough to enjoy the benefits of the city, then you should start looking at Castle Rock real estate. Castle Rock is awesome.
You want recognition? You got it. Recently, the town has been recognized as one of the best places in the country by Money magazine, Family Circle, Forbes and something called Nerdwallet. But it’s not just the magazine people taking note.
Over the last few years, Castle Rock has:
What’s all that mean? It means that Castle Rock is a cool town with lots going for it.
But it’s not all fun and games. The kid’s have to learn, too. Part of the nationally recognized Douglas County School District, Castle Rock has 23 public and private K-12 schools, giving parents the ability to make the right choice for their children’s education. Castle Rock and Douglas County Schools are well known for solid achievement, with test scores and graduation consistently out-pacing the rest of Colorado. Not surprising, really, when you realize that Castle Rock is also one of the most educated communities in the nation, with over 45% of it’s residents holding at least bachelors degrees – more than double the national average.
Castle Rock is the seat of Douglas County combined government, and Douglas County is booming. Local government and civic efforts, led by the mayor and city council, are focused on steering proper growth and have been recently honored as one of the communities throughout the United States that best demonstrates excellence in long-range planning and resource management.
The people of Castle Rock know small-town local business opportunity and urban renewal are priorities as well. That’s why, unlike many other nearby towns, Castle Rock takes great strides in providing business friendly policies and initiatives directed toward encouraging local entrepreneurship and small business development.
And it seems these policies are working, with over 2700 businesses now in Castle Rock and over 100 new ones opening every year, helping make Castle Rock one of the places with the lowest unemployment rates in the state. Of course, it never hurts to be a tech hub and in the best location, being right in the middle of the two largest Colorado cities – Denver and Colorado Springs.
Castle Rock CO sits right in the heart of the healthiest state in the nation. Resting at 6200 feet in elevation – a full thousand feet above downtown Denver – the crisp and clean air mixed with abundant sunshine makes this a nature lover’s paradise. As long as the thinner air doesn’t get to you, you have access to some of the best outdoor activities in the world. It’s not just hiking, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding and rock climbing. You also have tennis, world class golf courses and roads that were made for cruising with the top down.
The town sits just a few miles east of the Rampart Range of the Rockies on the western edge of the Great Plains, in plain view of Devils Head, Mount Evans and Pikes Peak. Castle Rock, the butte that for which the town was named, sits just north of the town center and offers not only a striking visual experience, but opportunities for day hikes and light to moderate to heavy cycling activities in and around a 230-acre regional park and trail system.
Castle Rock also sports state-of-the-art recreation centers, a thriving public art community, live theater and orchestra, a growing yearly wine festival, the Douglas County Fairgrounds, Rodeo and Parade, and other family focused activities. There is always something going on.
Besides being a fun place to live, it’s also an incredible investment opportunity!
Castle Rock CO has seen significant housing growth over the recent past, mainly due to new residents moving to the area. The beautiful thing about all the Castle Rock real estate for sale is that there truly is something for everybody. Focus your attention toward the downtown area and you can find modest houses for sale on small lots, sporting classic styling and more affordability within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Move a bit further out and patio homes and homes on fabulous golf courses and single-family homes in HOA dominated planned communities for any budget. One more step out and you have 35 acre plots where you can spend millions, plant your flag and your home and watch the growth from a distance for generations to come.
The Castle Rock real estate market is still growing, but location makes it competitive. The median sales price for homes for sale in Castle Rock CO in December 2015 was $381,500. In November 2016 it was $401,750. The market is getting a little tighter, with less available, but that makes for an incredible investment opportunity to buy in this increasingly popular suburban mountain town.
