If you are looking for a fun and meaningful way to give back to the Castle Rock community, and you are an outdoorsy type of person, now is a great time to learn more about ways to volunteer in Castle Rock through POST Partners! POST stands for Parks, Open Space and Trails, and the program offers many different volunteer opportunities for adults and children in the Castle Rock area. Each year, people who live in Castle Rock homes donate thousands of hours of their time to benefit trail maintenance and other volunteer projects throughout Castle Rock, Douglas County and the state of Colorado.
Trail Maintenance Volunteer Programs
The POST Program offers two trail maintenance volunteer opportunities which are led by trained crew leaders, and allow volunteers of all ages to help keep some of the most popular outdoor areas in Castle Rock in excellent condition:
Ridgeline Wranglers
The Ridgeline Wranglers volunteer group consists of almost 100 volunteers who are led by trained crew leaders to improve Stewart Trail at Ridgeline Open Space. Some of the jobs that the volunteers complete include eliminating noxious weeds from the trail area, repairing trail ruts, clearing the trail of scrub oak and other types of brush, and helping to improve the trail in various ways. Additional volunteers are always needed! Learn more about the Ridgeline Wranglers volunteer program by clicking here. The minimum age for this program is seven. Volunteers are provided with a T-shirt or a water bottle, and an end-of season celebration party!
Rhyolite Dirt Crew
For the past 5 years, volunteers of the Rhyolite Dirt Crew have been helping improve and maintain the bike park at Rhyolite Regional Bike Park. The Crew is always looking for additional volunteers who are welcome to help with various projects. The efforts of the Rhyolite Dirt Crew include making improvements to the bike park’s berms and the addition of a mulch practice jump. Anyone interested in learning more about this volunteer opportunity should call (303) 814-7456 for more information.
