Castle Pines Parks And Recreation Comprehensive (Parc) Plan

There is no question that residents of Castle Pines CO value living near indoor and outdoor recreation areas! In fact, a survey facilitated by the city indicates that residents would like to see a new recreation/community center in the area.

Anyone currently living in Castle Pines, or thinking about moving to the area, will be pleased to learn that a Castle Pines Parks and Recreation Comprehensive (PaRC) Plan for development is currently being established that will define the parks and recreation development strategy for the area for the next 25 years.

The abovementioned survey was used to determine the most important recreational needs of current residents. In addition to a new recreation/community center, the survey also asked about other common requests, including the development of additional open space and trails as well as additional recreational programs for community residents.

The city encourages and appreciates community involvement and has already facilitated two phases of public outreach (more details below). Truly understanding what residents want is a top concern.

Phase I – Castle Pines Parks and Recreation Comprehensive (PaRC) Plan Outreach Highlights:

Phase I gathered information and opinions from the public and from community leaders. This was accomplished through the following four methods:

  • A community survey that was mailed to residents’ homes
  • Small group and individual interviews with community leaders
  • Discussion with residents at a booth set up at the community’s Food Truck Frenzy event
  • An open house that all residents were welcome to attend

The results of Phase I allowed the city to create a summary of the information collected and to make an initial determination regarding the long-term recreational needs and wants of the community.

Phase II – Castle Pines Parks and Recreation Comprehensive (PaRC) Plan Outreach Highlights:

Phase II collected additional information and opinions from the public and from community leaders. This time, however, the focus was on the specific features the community would like to see in a recreation center as well as opinions about funding options.

This was accomplished through the following three methods:

  • Discussions with residents at Party in the Pines Events
  • A second public survey
  • Stakeholder interviews

Examples of questions asked in the survey include:

  • Where are you most likely to spend your leisure time?
  • What are the preferred funding options?
  • Where should a new recreation center be built?
