More About the Castle. Firstly, is it Really a Castle?
Anyone who has ever seen Cherokee Ranch & Castle knows that it does, in fact, look like an actual 1450’s Scottish-style castle!
Formally known as Charlford Castle, Cherokee Ranch and Castle was constructed in the 1920s and was designed by Burnham Hoyt in the style of a 15th century Scottish castle. Using stone mined from nearby quarries, the castle features turrets, towers, gargoyles, and a gabled roof along with an outstanding art collection and elegant furnishings.
The building sits on thousands of acres of land in Douglas County CO and is surrounded by open space. The acres of open space are home not only to historic buildings and artifacts of life as it used to be, but also to wildlife such as bluebirds, elk, wild turkeys, bears, cougars, mountain lions, and porcupine.
Today, the Ranch is operated by the Cherokee Ranch & Castle Foundation. Established as an educational and cultural site in the 1990s, the Cherokee Ranch is the perfect setting for both private and public events, including weddings.
