One of the Most Enjoyable, Not-to-be-Missed Annual Events in Castle Rock!
No matter if you are a resident of one of the many Castle Rock CO neighborhoods, or if you are visitor to the area, the annual Castle Rock Lighting of the Star is an event not to miss.
The Starlighting Ceremony is a tradition that locals have been enjoying on a yearly basis since 1936. It’s an event that many people anticipate each year with great excitement! The Lighting of the Star signifies the beginning of the year’s holiday season. It’s an event that celebrates a sense of community, enjoyment and tradition.
Originally, the “larger than life” star’s purpose was to draw visitors and commerce to Castle Rock. Over the years, the star has been a symbol of hope, strength and unity. Today, the Lighting of the Star remains one of the most enjoyable, not-to-be-missed annual events in Castle Rock. Read more about George P. Castle Rock Lighting of the Star:
Who: All are Welcome to Attend the Lighting of the Star
What: Starlighting Ceremony and Community Event
When: Saturday, November 18, 2017 from 2:00 pm through 7:00 pm
Where: Celebration will take place in Downtown Castle Rock, and the Lighting of the Star ceremony will take place at Historic Wilcox Square at 5:00 pm
The 2017 Lighting of the Star is presented by the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce. Many local businesses will be open during the event, and will offer discounts and stay open late for shoppers.
2017’s Star Lighting Ceremony will include strolling entertainers, live entertainment, booths from several non-profits and of course, lots of hot chocolate. Don’t forget to come ready for your first skate of the season at the Rink at the Rock! Festivities will begin at 2:00 pm with visits and photos with Santa. Hot Chocolate and Starlighting Ornament sales will be available. The Star Lighting Ceremony will start promptly at 5:00 pm, culminating with the Star being lit at approximately 5:30 pm.

Jazz Under the Star
If you want to avoid the crowds and the hassle of parking, considering watching the Starlighting from the Plum Creek Golf Club’s Jazz Under the Star event, which will include Hor’s D’oeuvres, live music and a cash bar. The event will take place from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Call (303) 660-2200 ext. 110 to reserve your spot. Must be 21 to attend.
Road Closures and Shuttle Rides
Please remember that the Lighting of the Star is expected to draw a very large crowd. Each year the event gains more and more visitors. There will be road closures, but there will also be recommended parking areas along with free shuttle rides that will take visitors to the event area. Carpooling is recommended and remember to not park in areas designated as NO PARKING. Cars will be towed!

Douglas County High School – South Bldg. (2842 Front Street)
Douglas County Fairgrounds – Lot 5 (500 Fairgrounds Drive)
Castle View High School – Back North Lot (5254 N Meadows Drive)
