Attention all adventure-junkies, thrill-seekers, and fitness-freaks, Castle Rock has got a challenge for you! The Miller Activity Complex, or MAC, will be hosting a series of mountain bike races this summer that will push you to your limits, encourage fitness through this fun, intense, sport, and spark up a little friendly competition among mountain bikers of all skill levels.

Race the MAC in Castle Rock this Summer

The Race the MAC series will take place every Wednesday starting on May 31, 2017 for four weeks until a champion is crowned. The MAC facility’s trails are perfect for short-track mountain bike races. The single-track, 6-mile trail has a 680-foot elevation gain per lap with blind corners, switchbacks, steep climbs, and other challenging features, as well as gorgeous views of the surrounding area that will keep racers invigorated and inspired.

The MAC races will feature several different classes, including: beginner, junior, everything (Fat, CX, Tandem), open class, single speed, sport, Clydesdales / Athena, and Masters (50+). The junior class is open to 11 to 17 year olds, the beginner class is for riders who don’t usually compete, the sport class is aimed at serious mountain biking enthusiasts, while the open class is a fast race for experienced riders. The course length, number of laps, and speed differ by class, ranging from 6 to over 18 miles. If you’re just in it for the fitness or the fun times, try out the everything class, which allows everything from single-speed to tandem bikes.

The race starts at a different time for each class, and are organized into two different heats:

Heat #1:

  • Beginner Class – 6 pm
  • Junior Class – 6 pm
  • Everything Class – 6:01 pm

Heat #2:

  • Open Class – 6:15 pm
  • Single Speed Open Class – 6:17 pm
  • Sport Class – 6:17 pm
  • Cyldesdales / Athena – 6:18 pm
  • Masters 50+ – 6:18 pm

This family-friendly event doesn’t forget about the spectators. Cheer on your friends, neighbors, kids, or significant others without working up a sweat while sipping a beer or munching on snacks. All on-site food vendors are from local businesses and the beer garden is sponsored by Grist Brewing Company in Highlands Ranch. Best of all for paying participants? The beer is completely free.

The MAC, which is located at Philip S. Miller Park, hopes to encourage a love of mountain biking in Castle Rock homeowners. With its close proximity to so many tough, but ultimately beautiful mountain biking trails, Castle Rock is the perfect place to begin an adventure.

The Miller Activity Complex also features a three-story indoor play structure, a trampoline area, a zero-entry pool, a turf field, batting cages, a golf simulator, and a fantastic zip line – operated by Castle Rock Zip Line Tours.

The Miller Activity Complex is located at Philip S. Miller Park, 1375 W Plum Creek Parkway in Castle Rock. Individual MAC races are $30 in advance, or $35 the day or the race. Or you can buy a series pass for $100.
